This is a ripe and complex wine displaying blueberry and dark cherry fruits, spice and pepper with cedar oak. The palate is juicy and powerful with blueberry and plum fruits with pepper overtones, savoury mid palate and cedar oak finish. The ripe tannins and acid are beautifully integrated and will give the wine great age ability of at least 15 to 20 years.
Winemaking Region: Bellarine Peninsula, Victoria. - Clone: PT23. - Soil Type: Grey loam over a clay subsoil. - Harvest Date: 16/03/15. - Yield: 2.6 kg/vine, 2.6 tn/ac, 6.5 tn/ha, 45.5 hl/ha. - Post Bottling: 14.5% alc, 3.77 pH, 6.1 g/l acid. - Oak Use: Spent 18 months in 50% new and 50% 1 year old French oak barriques. - Winemaking: The fruit was hand picked and de-stemmed to small 3 tonne open fermenters which included 25% whole bunches. Fermentation was wild with the temperature peaking at 28 degrees. The wine was hand plunged once a day and pressed at dryness. It then underwent a wild malolactic fermentation in barrel where it was left maturing. After 18 months the wine was blended, fined, filtered and bottled.
