It’s been another standout year for Scotchmans Hill in this years Halliday Wine Companion.
This year we celebrate our highest ever number of wines rated 94 points or above with 15 of our Estate wines taking the top honours.
Retaining our status as a Top 100 Winery in Australia we also continue to hold our status as a 5 Red Star Winery as awarded by Australia’s top wine critic James Halliday.
In addition to this, we also have 19 wines rated 90 points or above, an impressive testament to the skill and dedication of our Winemakers Robin Brockett, Marcus Holt and Peter Armstrong.
Adding to our accolades, a further 15 wines made by Scotchmans Hill for our friends in the region also rated 90 points or above in this year's Companion.
In total, this brings the number of wines with points 90 or above to 34 wines.
To be recognised as a standout winery by James Halliday is an exceptional achievement and cements our place as one of the consistently highest achieving wineries in Australia.
These award-winning results are a considerable accomplishment for our Winery and Vineyard teams. A recognition of the hours spent refining their craft through the summer heat and winter sleet as well as long days and nights during vintage.
An unrelenting dedication to making wines that stand out has led Chief Winemaker Robin Brockett to focus on breakaway winemaking methodologies, such as wild-fermented wines, non-intrusive winemaking and following a philosophy that exceptional winemaking starts in the vineyard.
As Chief Winemaker Robin Brockett always says “Good wine can be made in the winery, but great wine is made in the vineyard.”
Inspired by this year’s results, we are already looking to the future. The newly released 2018 Scotchmans Hill Chardonnay and 2018 Swan Bay Rosé are looking especially promising.
If you’re looking to buy a wine from this year's Wine Companion, we have a recommendation from Chief Winemaker Robin Brockett. The 94 point 2018 Scotchmans Hill Sauvignon Blanc. The palate is intense and lively with tropical fruits, gooseberry with savoury notes on the mid-palate. Tangy acidity rounds out the wine and gives a mouth watering finish.
It’s the final month of the Summer series at Scotchmans Hill and we’re playing it out in style. If you haven’t been able to make it down to our beautiful Vineyard and Cellar Door, don’t worry there is still time left to groove with the grapes.
To kick us off for February will be the local trio Sway. Playing the classics and a few forgotten gems, putting an unique spin on old school classics.
In the following weeks will be a few returning stars, Deadly Duo will be back with their flowing harmonies and fine mixture of covers and original music. Also returning will be crowd favourites Sebastian Smart and Kat on the 10th with their fine acoustic groove.
Playing our final February show will be the lovely Laurie Phyland coming armed with a ukulele and silky-smooth vocals. The perfect pairing for a day out with wine, food and friends.
Our special Summer Series menus will also be running every Sunday of the month with a set two Course or three Course option.
The Summer Series will run every Sunday in February. For any enquiries or to book your favourite table, contact email@example.com
We’re going to Mardi Gras!
Scotchmans Hill will be the exclusive wine and sparkling partner of the 2019 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
We’re extremely proud to be partnering with Mardi Gras.
Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras CEO, Terese Casu, said “Scotchmans Hill Winery is an exciting addition to our line-up of partners and supporters for this year’s Mardi Gras Festival – we’re proud to be profiling exceptional Australian wines to our international audience. Their effervescent Swan Bay range is sure to be a hit with our thousands of festival fans and we look forward to welcoming them to the Mardi Gras family in 2019.”
We’ll be serving our range of Swan Bay wines at venues throughout the festival. The Swan Bay range was created to reflect the Colours of the Bellarine, a perfect fit with the rainbow symbol iconised by Mardi Gras and the LGBTQI community.
The Swan Bay range includes a Pinot Noir Chardonnay Sparkling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Pinot Grigio and recently award-winning Pinot Noir Rose. The new Swan Bay Prosecco will also be launched at Mardi Gras, as well as our very first Prosecco!
We’re offering a special Mardi Gras wine pack. Click here to see how you can get a FREE bottle of our Swan Bay Pinot Noir Chardonnay Sparkling!
To celebrate, we’ve also joined forces with local production company Moo Motion and Triple M disk jockeys Tom Bainbridge and Olly Morris. The video was created to celebrate the joy of the partnership and reflect the excitement of Mardi Gras itself. Shot in the greater Geelong area, the video captures our mounting excitement about Mardi Gras, including Tom and Olly popping bottles of sparkling from a luxurious chaise atop a bus!
