It’s been another standout year for Scotchmans Hill in this years Halliday Wine Companion.
This year we celebrate our highest ever number of wines rated 94 points or above with 15 of our Estate wines taking the top honours.
Retaining our status as a Top 100 Winery in Australia we also continue to hold our status as a 5 Red Star Winery as awarded by Australia’s top wine critic James Halliday.
In addition to this, we also have 19 wines rated 90 points or above, an impressive testament to the skill and dedication of our Winemakers Robin Brockett, Marcus Holt and Peter Armstrong.
Adding to our accolades, a further 15 wines made by Scotchmans Hill for our friends in the region also rated 90 points or above in this year's Companion.
In total, this brings the number of wines with points 90 or above to 34 wines.
To be recognised as a standout winery by James Halliday is an exceptional achievement and cements our place as one of the consistently highest achieving wineries in Australia.
These award-winning results are a considerable accomplishment for our Winery and Vineyard teams. A recognition of the hours spent refining their craft through the summer heat and winter sleet as well as long days and nights during vintage.
An unrelenting dedication to making wines that stand out has led Chief Winemaker Robin Brockett to focus on breakaway winemaking methodologies, such as wild-fermented wines, non-intrusive winemaking and following a philosophy that exceptional winemaking starts in the vineyard.
As Chief Winemaker Robin Brockett always says “Good wine can be made in the winery, but great wine is made in the vineyard.”
Inspired by this year’s results, we are already looking to the future. The newly released 2018 Scotchmans Hill Chardonnay and 2018 Swan Bay Rosé are looking especially promising.
If you’re looking to buy a wine from this year's Wine Companion, we have a recommendation from Chief Winemaker Robin Brockett. The 94 point 2018 Scotchmans Hill Sauvignon Blanc. The palate is intense and lively with tropical fruits, gooseberry with savoury notes on the mid-palate. Tangy acidity rounds out the wine and gives a mouth watering finish.
The wines have been tasted, and the results are in!
James Halliday and his team clock up hundreds of hours in the tasting room to bring us their definite guide of wine insights on nearly 10,000 Australian wines from 1237 wineries around Australia.
We’re also thrilled to have retained our highly coveted Five Red Stars, Red Name Winery rating, and Top 100 Winery which ranks us among the top wineries in Australia. This year 13 of our wines scored 94 points or over, and four of those were acknowledged as exceptional value.
A huge congratulations to Robin Brockett, Marcus Holt, Peter Armstrong and our extended winemaking and vineyard team on a fantastic result!
Amongst our successes we are also proud of the points allotted to Scotchmans Hill's Jack and Jill, exclusive on-premise range. With the Pinot Noir and Shiraz scoring 95 points and the Sauvignon Blanc & Chardonnay scoring 94 points.
Not all of the wines above wines have been released,
the list below provides a list of all current vintages and associated Halliday Points.

A huge congratulations to Robin Brockett, Marcus Holt and our extended winemaking and vineyard team on a fantastic Wine Show season. We are very excited to receive a Gold for the 2014 Scotchmans Hill Shiraz at the prestigious Royal Melbourne Wine Awards, as well as a Gold for the 2013 Cornelius Syrah at the Ballarat Wine Show.
Shiraz holds a special place in our hearts at Scotchmans Hill. Medium-bodied, fragrant and nimble, the cool maritime climate Shiraz produced on the Bellarine Peninsula continues to show its pedigree. While these two award-winning wines are still a taste of things to come, our current release 2013 Scotchmans Hill Shiraz and 2010 Cornelius Syrah are also gorgeous drinking, and are both available online and at our cellar door.
A huge congratulations to Robin Brockett, Marcus Holt and our extended winemaking and vineyard team for a fantastic result in the 2016 James Halliday Australian Wine Companion. With lots of exciting new reviews, we’re very thrilled to have retained our highly coveted Five Red Stars and a Red Name Winery rating. Seven wines over 94 points was a great surprise this morning!
