2012 Cornelius Airds Vineyard Chardonnay
A rich and complex nose displaying stone fruits and mealy notes with spicy barrel ferment characters. The palate has great length, precision and drive dominated by white peach, citrus and solids notes. Oak and barrel ferment flavours give overall richness and frame the wine, which is long and persistent. Firm acid and depth of flavour. One to cellar.
Hand picked, whole bunch pressed with free run juice run to barrel and light solids retained in juice. Wild fermentation then took place over 2 weeks. The yeast lees were stirred monthly over the next 12 months while maturing in barrel. After 15 months the wine was blended, fined, filtered and bottled. 13.5% ABV.
15 months in oak: 50% new and 50% 1 year old French barriques
